Mike and Susan's Road Trip

Pedro meets Jaws!!

Late Departure after trying to get on the road "without forgetting anything".  Made it just over the border to the KOA in Kingsland, GA and found a great place to relax for the evening.  Cooked up some King crab and had a great evening watching the closing ceremonies of the olympics under the stars.

Day 1 - Anna Maria, Florida to Kingsland, Georgia

Day 2 - Kingsland, Georgia to South of the Border, SC

Hung out around the campground for the morning, heard from a friend of ours, Curtis, that he was in Jacksonville headed north to Brunswick for work.  We waited for him to catch up iwth us to hang out for a few minutes, and then headed off for another day of driving.  Arrived at South of the Border around 8, and got set up for the evening.  Walked around to check it all out, grabbed a burrito from the Sombrero restaurant, and headed back.

Got up and walked through Pedro's Playground checking out the Reptile Exhibit, including the snorting tortoise and some huge gators and snakes.  We decided to bring Pedro along for the journey, in case we need some help driving!  We headed on to Virginia Beach and enjoyed a beautiful drive through the countryside of North Carolina and Virginia farmlands, countless tobacco, peanut, cotton fields, farmhouses, and remnants of another era.  Finally settled into the KOA in Virginia Beach around 7.  As we unloaded and started cooking dinner, we enjoyed a flyover from our friend Bobby in an FA-18 that shook the ground as he went by.  We had a great steak dinner as we listened for more fighter jets coming out of Oceana.  Really makes you feel proud about the country you live in to see and feel the presence of our military!
